Aged care home resident, 90, attacked as she slept

Sexual Crimes Squad detectives have released a facial composite following a shocking sexual assault upon a 90-year-old woman at an aged care facility in the Geelong suburb of St Albans Park in the early hours of this morning.

Police say the elderly resident awoke to find a man sexually assaulting her at the Aldershot Road address at around 4.45am.

Sexual crimes squad Detective Acting Inspector Mark Burnett said the woman fought back against her attacker before a staff member disturbed the offender and he ran off.

“She was able at one point to activate her personal distress alarm,” Inspector Burnett said.

“That’s resulted in nursing staff attending and scaring away the attacker.”

Police say the aged care facility was secure but investigators had not yet determined how the man obtained entry into the residence.

The woman was taken to hospital as the police dog squad arrived and searched the surrounding area for the offender.

“However the offender was unable to be located,” Victoria Police said.

The offender is described as being aged between 20 and 25 years old, fair skinned, thin build, around 163 cm tall and was wearing dark-coloured pants, a dark-coloured long-sleeve t-shirt and a red beanie.

“Detectives are urging any residents, businesses or anyone passing through the surrounding area that has CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward,” police said.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
