Man, 52, charged over Gatton home invasion

Queensland detectives have charged a 52-year-old Gatton man in relation to an ongoing homicide investigation following the death of a 76-year-old man from injuries received during a home invasion last month.

Police will allege that between 4pm and 7pm on April 25th, the 52-year-old man entered a residence on Hood Street and assaulted the elderly occupant.

Investigators believe the two men were known to each other as acquaintances.

“The man was located by emergency services with serious injuries and was transported to Toowoomba Hospital,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“His condition deteriorated and he passed away at hospital on May 5.

“Following extensive investigations by detectives, a 52-year-old Gatton man has been charged with one count each of enter dwelling with intent by break at night, deprivation of liberty, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.”

His police bail was refused and he is due to appear before Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.

Police say their investigations into the incident are continuing.
