A new dementia care residence is set to open in Cherrybrook, offering families across Sydney’s north-west a local alternative to traditional aged care facilities.
Cherrybrook is the 24th home in Sydney from Videri Australia and is based on its innovative small‑home model. Each home supports 10 residents and is designed to look, feel and function like a real home. Residents live in a familiar domestic environment, supported 24/7 by a dedicated Resident Care team and Homemakers who provide compassionate, personalised care.
For families in the Hills district and surrounding suburbs, the options for specialised local dementia care have, until now, been limited.
With Australia’s population ageing and the number of people living with dementia continuing to rise, families are increasingly caring for loved ones at home until crisis point, often without knowing that specialised, dementia‑friendly care exists in their own community. Dementia is now Australia’s leading cause of death, with around 466,500 Australians living with the condition, projected to reach one million by 2065.
“Our vision has always been to revolutionise dementia care in Australia by replacing institutional models with real homes, real relationships and real daily life,” said Leah Gabolinscy, Chief Executive Officer, Videri Australia.
“Videri Cherrybrook means families in and around Cherrybrook, Castle Hill and Hornsby don’t have to move their loved one far from everything they know to access high‑quality dementia care. They can stay close to their GPs, communities and social networks, in a small home that truly feels like home.”

“Dementia care is moving towards a more modern approach and this new Videri home in Cherrybrook reflects that shift. With its small-home model centred on comfort, familiarity and a true sense of home, it provides a more personal and dignified option for local families, close to their community and support networks,” said Federal Member for Berowra, Julian Leeser.
Videri’s model has been described by industry leaders as the “gold standard in dementia care”, aligning closely with the vision emerging from the Aged Care Royal Commission and subsequent reforms.
The Cherrybrook home supports:
- Local people living with dementia who need a safe and familiar environment, close to family;
- Families and carers who are balancing work, care and other responsibilities and can no longer sustain care at home;
- Local clinicians and referrers – including GPs, specialists, hospitals and community services – who require credible dementia‑specific options they can recommend with confidence.

“In each Videri home, daily life centres on familiar routines and meaningful activity. Shared meals, gardening, music, outings, and spontaneous moments of connection are prioritised over rigid schedules,” said Ms Gabolinscy.
“This focus on the feeling of home helps reduce distress, support dignity and create a sense of belonging for residents and their families, which is so important.”
