Two youths – aged 12 and 14 – will face court today after allegedly being caught in possession of a firearm.
Police say that at around 6.30pm yesterday, officers were called to Sturt Road at Oaklands Park after security guards reported they were following a girl and boy in possession of a firearm who had been involved in an incident with a contractor at the shopping centre.
“Southern District patrols were quickly on scene and arrested the juveniles on Alderman Avenue without incident,” SA Police said in a statement.
Police believe the pair disposed of the firearm, suspected to be a gel blaster, while running from the scene.
“Police conducted an extensive search of the area, using a gun dog and other resources but the firearm was not located. Police are conducting another search today and have not located a firearm so far.”
A 14-year-old girl from Seacombe Gardens and a 12-year-old boy from Mitchell Park were both charged with assault, threats to kill, possession of a firearm and breach of bail.
They were refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Youth Court today.
“Anyone who locates a firearm is urged not to touch it and to contact police immediately on 131 444.”
“Fortunately, no-one was injured as a result of the incident,” SA Police said.
Any person with additional information regarding this incident is requested to contact Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or on 1800 333 000.
