The Royal Australian Mint will honour one of Australia’s most solemn traditions of military remembrance with a new coloured $2 coin commemorating The Last Post.
Played at commemorative services across the nation, The Last Post is a deeply familiar sound that brings Australians together in remembrance of those who have served. Its final notes mark the transition to silence, inviting a moment of reflection and gratitude for the service and sacrifice of Australia’s military personnel.
The 2026 coin design captures this powerful moment, depicting a bugler performing before a war memorial at sundown. Radiating bars of music notes echo the movement of sound and the setting sun, while musical rests symbolise the silence that follows. Memorial steps cut across the composition, grounding the design in places where Australians gather to remember.
The coloured centre print features dusky orange and deep purple tones inspired by twilight, reflecting the close of day and the quiet solemnity of the occasion. The inscription The Last Post: Remembrance completes the design, with the ‘C’ mint mark appearing on select editions.

Royal Australian Mint CEO, Emily Martin said the coin offered Australians a meaningful way to reflect on the enduring significance of The Last Post.
“The Last Post is a sound that carries deep meaning for Australians. When those final notes fade, the silence that follows gives us time to reflect on the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served our country,” Ms Martin said.
“This coin honours that moment of remembrance and the tradition of coming together to pay our respects. We hope it encourages Australians to pause, remember and carry the stories of those who served into the future.”
The 2026 program will be available in two collectible formats: the 2026 $2 ‘C’ Mintmark Coloured Uncirculated Coin and the 2026 $2 ‘C’ Mintmark Coloured Silver Proof Coin.

The coin will also be released into circulation through banks, giving Australians the opportunity to discover the commemorative design in their everyday change.
“I’d like to remind everyone to be on the lookout for the coin when using cash and check their change for this special tribute to a significant part of the nation’s remembrance tradition,” Ms Martin said.
The collectible products will be released through an equal ballot.
