Woman trapped in car by fallen tree

A 59-year-old woman was trapped in her car by a fallen tree during a severe storm south in the Northern Rivers region last night.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by New South Wales Ambulance shortly after 6pm on Tuesday following reports that a large tree that had fallen onto a vehicle trapping the driver at Lawrence, south of Maclean.

“NSW Ambulance Paramedics and the Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team have treated and stabilised a 59-year-old female who is suffering serious multiple injuries after a tree fell on her vehicle during a severe storm that had passed through the area,” the Westpac Rescue service said in a statement.

“The lady was trapped in her vehicle for over two hours before being extricated by emergency service personnel.

“Due to severe thunderstorms in the area the helicopter was unable to get through to GCUH, the lady was airlifted to Lismore Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.”
