WA Police arrest 57-year-old man over 1992 sex assault

Detectives from WA’s Special Crime Squad – Serious Crime & Family Violence Team have charged a 57-year-old man over the sexual assault of a child that occurred in 1992.

“It is alleged that between 10am and 10.45am on Sunday, March 1 in 1992, three girls and one boy were playing in the enclosed playground of the Camboon Primary School located on Forder Road in Noranda when the man approached them,” WA Police said in a statement today.

“It is further alleged he led a 10-year-old girl a short distance away from the other children before sexually assaulting her.”

Police say advancements in DNA technology assisted detectives with new investigative leads which resulted in the arrest of the man yesterday.

The 57-year-old man from Kelmscott was charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault and one count of aggravated indecent assault.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives urge anyone with any information relating to this matter to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
