Two boys arrested over vehicle thefts

Two 14-year-old boys have been charged after Police allege they stole two cars from a home in the state’s Hunter Region earlier this week.

Police say that between 7pm on Wednesday and 7am the following day, two vehicles – a a grey Holden Captiva and a black Ford Ranger – were stolen from a home on Carl Lane in Muswellbrook.

“About 6.20am on Thursday, officers attached to Oxley Traffic and Highway Patrol were patrolling Coledale near Tamworth, when they observed a grey Holden Captiva being driven at speed,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“A pursuit was initiated, with the vehicle allegedly reaching speeds of about 100km/hr in a sign-posted 50km/hr zone.”

Police say the pursuit was terminated a short time later, before officers located a burnt-out black Ford Ranger near Warral Road in West Tamworth.

“About 8.20am the same day, police observed three males allegedly stealing a scooter from a carpark at Griffin Street, Tamworth,” Police said.

“Officers approached the group and spoke with three boys – all aged 14 – outside Tamworth Railway Station.”

The three boys were arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

Two of the teens were charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, steal motor vehicle and larceny.

One boy was refused bail and is due to appear at a children’s court today, while the other was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on February 8. The third teenage boy was dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
