Truck driver, 60, charged after police pursuit

A 60-year-old truck driver has been charged following a police pursuit in the state’s Murray River region earlier this week.

Police say that at around 9pm on Sunday, March 6 officers attached to Murray River Traffic and Highway Patrol Command spotted a truck being driven in a dangerous manner on the Hume Highway at Ettamogah, about 15km north-east of Albury.

“A pursuit was initiated, and it will be alleged the truck was being driven down the middle of two southbound lanes, before crossing the border into Victoria, where the pursuit was terminated,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Following inquiries, about 9.40am yesterday, a 60-year-old man was found parked in the heavy vehicle within the Mundoonen Rest Area on the Hume Highway at Yass.

“Highway Patrol officers spoke with the man before he was arrested and taken to Yass Police Station, here he was charged with police pursuit – not stopdrive dangerously.”

The Raymond Terrace man was granted conditional bail to appear in Albury Local Court on March 28.
