Taxi driver robbed at knifepoint

A man will face court today charged after police say he threatened a 64-year-old taxi driver with a knife before robbing him in Sydney’s inner west.

Police say that at around 4.45pm yesterday, a taxi driver arrived at an address in Fort Street, Petersham, regarding a fare booking.

“It will be alleged that the man who made the booking, approached the 64-year-old taxi driver armed with a knife demanding money,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The man stole a sum of cash from the taxi driver and then attempted to remove the taxi driver from the vehicle.

“A nearby witness has intervened, where the man ran from the scene.”

Police arrested a 32-year-old man in Railway Street, Petersham, about 6.30pm the same day.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon and demand property by force with intent to steal.

The Paddington man was bail refused to appear at Newtown Local Court today.
