Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein (pictured) says he intends to open the state’s border to NSW residents from Friday, November 6.
Tasmania opened its borders to Queensland, Western Australia, South Australian, Northern Territory and the ACT this week.
“Currently, NSW is still considered a medium-risk area with the requirement to quarantine on arrival and as of yesterday, this is able to be done at a suitable premises, such as a private residence, if available,” the Premier said.
“Public Health has been monitoring the small number and nature of cases being recorded in NSW and I can announce that it is our intention to classify NSW as a low risk area and relax our border restrictions with that state from Friday 6th of November,” he said.
“This will mean that passengers arriving from NSW will not need to quarantine effective from that date, however this will be subject to any further advice received from Public Health between now and that date.”
He said health officials were continuing to monitor the situation in Victoria, with the aim of easing border restrictions by December 1.
“But as I’ve always said, we will be responsive to the evolving situation based on public health advice,” Mr Gutwein said.
“It’s more important than ever we remember to be COVID-safe. Remember to physically distance, cover your coughs and sneezes, stay home if you’re unwell and don’t hesitate to get a test, even if your symptoms are mild.”
