Household waste and recycling kerbside collections will be disrupted on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 November due to industrial action by drivers employed by collection contractor company, Suez.
Suburbs that have a Monday household waste and recycling bin collection are advised that their bins will be collected on Tuesday 10 November instead.
Residents are being encouraged to leave their bins on the kerb until collected.
Suburbs that have a Tuesday household waste and recycling bins collection are advised that their bins will not be collected on Tuesday 10 November and missed collections will not be caught up.
The impacted suburbs of Tuesday’s missed collections are listed below:
- Banks – waste and recycling
- Bonython – waste and recycling
- Calwell – waste and recycling
- Conder – waste and recycling
- Chisholm – waste
- Fadden – waste
- Garran – waste
- Gilmore – waste
- Gordon – waste and recycling
- Gowrie – waste
- Isaacs – waste
- Isabella Plains – waste and recycling
- Macarthur – waste
- Monash – waste
- O’Malley – waste
- Phillip – waste
- Richardson – waste and recycling
- Tharwa – waste and recycling
- Theodore – waste and recycling
- Wanniassa – waste
Green waste bin services, bulky waste collections and the wheeled bin assistance service are unaffected by the industrial action and will continue as normal.
The following temporary rubbish only drop-off sites will be available from Saturday 7 November until Sunday 15 November for excess household waste of up to three large plastic bags to be disposed of for free between 9 am and 6 pm:
- Woden –Â Easty Street, Between Smith Family Carpark and Callam Offices
- Gordon –Â McGilvray Close
- Calwell –Â Calwell Neighbourhood Oval off Outtrim Avenue
- Waramanga –Â Walpiri Place, off Namatjira Drive
- Kambah –Â 66 Springbett Street, near the tennis courts
- Gowrie –Â 7 Finlay Place, near the Scout Hall
- Weston –Â Hilder Street, at the Weston Neighbourhood Oval.
Alternatively, from Saturday 7 November until Sunday 15 November, three large plastic garbage bags can be disposed of for free at the Resource Management Centres between 7.30am and 5pm:
- Symonston –Â Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre, Mugga Lane
- Mitchell –Â Mitchell Resource Management Centre, Flemington Road.
Proof of ACT residency such as a driver’s licence will need to be shown in order to access the free drop-off service.
The ACT Government says it understands some residents in impacted suburbs may be unable to travel to the drop‑off locations.
“We encourage the community to support their neighbours, friends and family members who may need assistance.”
Recyclable materials can continue to be dropped off for free at the ACT Government Recycling Drop Off Centres, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the following locations:
- Jolly Street, Belconnen
- O’Brien Place, Gungahlin
- Baillieu Circuit, Mitchell
- Botany Street, Phillip
- Scollay Street, Tuggeranong.
“The ACT Government acknowledges the inconvenience for residents in the affected suburbs, noting the impacts of two consecutive weeks of industrial action to the community,” City Services said in a statement.
“The ACT Government urges both parties to reach agreement as quickly as possible.”
