Singapore arrival escapes Perth quarantine

A 66-year-old woman has been arrested after failing to comply with a COVID quarantine direction upon arriving in Western Australia.

Police say the woman arrived at Perth Airport on Saturday on a flight from Singapore and was issued a direction to quarantine for 14 days at a WA Government-managed hotel in Perth.

At around 9:30am yesterday, police allege the woman left her allocated room in breach of her quarantine direction, and failed to comply with a request from security staff to return to her room.

“At the time of the alleged breach the woman was not wearing a face mask,” WA Police said in a statement.

It will be further alleged the woman advised security she intended to continue leaving her allocated room.

“Police were notified of the incident and attended the woman’s room to speak to her.

“During their conversation with the woman it will be alleged she again indicated her intention not to comply with the quarantine direction.”

The woman was arrested and taken to the Perth Watch House.

She was charged with Failed to Comply with a Direction and was refused bail to appear in court today.
