A 91-year-old driver has struck three people in a horror crash in Wantirna South this afternoon, leaving one person dead, another critically injured and a third taken to hospital with serious injuries.

It’s believed the elderly woman lost control of her vehicle on Coleman Road at around 12.20pm, hitting several pedestrians before driving through a fence.

“One of the pedestrians has died at the scene. A second person has been transported to hospital in a critical condition and a third person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“The driver of the vehicle was not seriously injured but has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives will investigate.”

Police say it is as yet unclear whether the 91-year-old woman had suffered a medical episode.

Police are continuing to interview witnesses and have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
