Search for mystery fisherman

Police are appealing for information after fishing equipment and personal belongings were found unattended today at Shellharbour North Beach.

Police say at around 6:30am this morning, a chair, a fishing rod – with the line still in the water, a tackle box, bait, thongs and sunglasses were located on the beach.

The mystery fishing equipment found left on the beach.

“Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District, along with Police Marine Area Command, Shellharbour City Council Lifeguards, Surf Lifesaving NSW, SES and Marine Rescue NSW, conducted an extensive search via air, land and water for the owner of the goods,” NSW Police said in a statement today.

Police have received no reports of a missing person and are appealing to the public for further information.

“If anyone recognises the gear or knows of someone who may not have returned home from fishing on Shellharbour North Beach overnight or early this morning, please contact Lake Illawarra Police on 02 4232 5599.”
