Scam awareness webinar for Albany Seniors

Supported by Council of the Ageing (COTA), the City of Albany will be screening a free scam awareness webinar exclusively for seniors on Monday 8 November in recognition of National Scam Awareness Week.

With Australians becoming more connected to the digital world, the risk of being exposed to scams and cyber-crime, particularly within the seniors community, continues to increase across the country.

In 2020, Australians over 65 experienced the highest rates of financial loss through phone, email and internet scams, resulting in a total loss of over $37million.

City of Albany Community Development Coordinator Tammy Flett said the workshop would cover strategies for staying safe online.

“Attendees will hear from experts about how to recognise and protect themselves from scams and cyber-crimes,” she said.

“Covid-19 has made us more digitally connected as a community and we need to make sure our senior residents are scam savvy, now more than ever.”

The event will take place at the City of Albany Civic Rooms on Monday 8 November with morning tea available from 9:15am. The 90-minute webinar will commence at 10am.

Bookings are essential and can be made via https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/lets-talk-scams-webinar-morning-tea-tickets-195593183477 or by contacting the Community Development Team on 6820 3008 before 5pm on 4 November.
