A Sydney police officer has been ordered into self-isolation after coming into contact with a recently arrived traveller at a quarantine hotel in Sydney in the early hours of this morning.
Police say that at about 3am this morning, officers at the Police Operations Centre attached to Operation Corona Virus were made aware of an incident involving a constable on duty at a quarantine hotel in Sydney.
It’s been reported that the constable, who is attached to a specialist command, entered the room of a man undergoing mandatory quarantine who had recently arrived on an international flight.
After leaving the man’s room, the constable then remained at the hotel for a short time before returning to a police station to complete his shift.
The constable and one close contact have since been directed to self-isolate at home and to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms. The pair will also undergo COVID-19 tests.
The male traveller had undergone testing prior to arriving in Australia and received a negative result. He will remain in mandatory quarantine and undergo a further COVID-19 test.
NSW Police are working with NSW Health to ensure all close contacts are tested for COVID-19, monitored, and remain in isolation.
The matter is now the subject of an internal Police investigation.
