Detectives have charged a 55-year-old man following investigations into drug supply activity across the Illawarra and south-west Sydney area.
Wollongong Police District established Strike Force Burgh in February 2018 to investigate the local supply of prohibited drugs with initial investigations focused on the cultivation and sale of cannabis in the area.
To date, detectives have charged a total of 11 people with a string of offences including supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), possession of prohibited drugs, deal with proceeds of crime and participate in a criminal group.
A total of 45kg of cannabis, 48g methamphetamine, 13g steroids, 0.02g LSD, and $242,885 in cash, a Mercedes vehicle, and designer jewellery valued in excess of $120,000 have been seized by investigators.
Police say at about 2.50pm yesterday the 55-year-old man was arrested at Mt Brown, near Wollongong, and taken to Wollongong Police Station where an extradition warrant was executed. The warrant (from Western Australia), relates to multiple drug-related offences identified during initial inquiries by Strike Force Burgh detectives in 2018.Â
He was charged with supply prohibited drug and drug possession.
He was refused bail and appeared in Wollongong Local Court today where extradition proceedings were approved.
