Police appeal after man’s body pulled from car in Walkers Point dam

Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash at Walkers Point in Queensland’s Fraser Coast, in which a 77-year-old man lost his life.

Police believe the accident may have occurred some time last week.

“On Sunday May 8, Police were alerted to vehicle tracks in the vicinity of Walkers Point Road, leading to a nearby dam, however no vehicle could be seen,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

Yesterday, police divers attended the scene and recovered a submerged vehicle in waters around midday.

“Within the 2007 Black Mazda CX7 Wagon, a 77-year-old Hervey Bay man was located deceased,” Police said.

“Preliminary investigations suggests the driver may have been travelling north along Walkers Point Road when he has failed to negotiate a sharp bend parallel to the dam, and consequently entered the water.”

Maryborough Forensic Crash Investigators are appealing for witnesses, especially those with dashcam footage capturing the moments leading up to and including the crash to come forward.
