Photographers invited to snap up Brisbane prizes

Brisbane residents are being invited to submit their best snaps with the 2024 Lord Mayor’s Photography Awards now open for entries.

This year’s theme ‘Brisbane in its best light’ is encouraging photographers of all abilities to share the places, people, and experiences that make the city shine brightly, said Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner.

“Brisbane is renowned for having the best lifestyle in Australia and I can’t wait to see how it’s captured in this year’s entries,” Cr Schrinner said.

“The theme ‘Brisbane in its best light’ will have a different meaning to each person and inspiration is everywhere across our city and suburbs.

“Whether it’s a shot of Brisbane’s precious native wildlife, our pristine bushland, the sands on Moreton Island or the people who call our city home,” he said.

Entrants go into the running to win cash prizes from $1000 to $5000, with a total of more than $15,000 available across eight categories.

Some of the categories include the Open Category Winner, Student, Green Heart, Social Media and People’s Choice.

The LaVonne Bobongie Award is a unique category that recognises the late artist’s contribution to Brisbane as an advocate of First Nations Country, community and identity.

Since 2013, the Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards has collectively awarded $153,500 to local photographers.

“This competition celebrates the best of Brisbane and the talented, creative residents who live here,” the Lord Mayor said.

“The best part about this competition is it’s completely free to enter and there are fantastic cash prizes up for grabs.

“This is just one of the many free and affordable activities I’m proud to offer, so everyone can make the most of our incredible lifestyle.”

Entries are now open on Council’s website to anyone who lives, works, or studies in Brisbane.
