New mobile library set to hit the road in Swan Hill

Smaller outlying communities in the Swan Hill Rural City Council municipality are set to enjoy an expanded mobile library service thanks to $267,050 in funding from the Victorian Government.

Mayor Bill Moar said the funding would be used toward the purchase and fit out of a new mobile library van.

“The new van would allow Council to offer more programs and activities on visits to rural communities, expand the home delivery service for older people and attend more community events,” Mayor Moar said.

“Replacing an older vehicle, the new van will bring improved library services to rural communities across 6,000 square kilometres, including Beverford, Boundary Bend, Lake Boga, Manangatang, Nyah, Tooleybuc, Ultima, Wakool and Woorinen.

“It will include a portable veranda that can be set up for outdoor events and activities.”

Mayor Moar said the Mobile Library was a free resource for people living in our municipality.

The new mobile library will be funded by the Victorian Governments Living Libraries Infrastructure Program and Swan Hill Rural City Council and is expected to be launched in 2022.
