New Toowoomba aged care home close to completion

Carinity and Paynters staff inspect construction of the new Carinity aged care building at Highfields.

Construction of a new 96-bed Carinity Aged Care facility in Highfields is getting closer to completion, with roofing on the building now close to being finished.

Work on the aged care community on Highfields Road, adjacent to the existing Brownesholme retirement village, is expected to be completed in March 2021.

The seniors’ community is operated by Carinity, a Queensland not-for-profit which also offers home care services around the Toowoomba region.

Brisbane-based company, Paynters, is building the new aged care facility – the company’s fourth major collaboration with Carinity in five years following construction of aged care sites in Townsville, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Paynters currently has 70 local sub-contractors working at the Highfields site as part of stage one of a $67 million expansion of the seniors’ community.

The expansion is part of Carinity’s vision for integrated services for seniors through the co-location of retirement villages and residential aged care and access to in-home care.

“Carinity is committed to seniors’ communities that offer adaptive living, giving the peace of mind of knowing you won’t need to leave the community you’ve come to know and love should you need additional support and care,” Carinity Aged Care Regional Manager, Kathy Nicholls said.

“When it is time for the additional support of aged care living, residents don’t have to move away from established relationships and can maintain their close networks,” she said.

“Having retirement villages and residential aged care communities co-located also enables couples to remain connected if one partner requires a higher level of care.”

It is anticipated that more than 90 local staff will work at the new aged care community which is scheduled to open mid-2021.
