Murray volunteers celebrated at Volunteer Week event

More than 150 local volunteers were celebrated at the Shire of Murray’s Volunteer Week function on Tuesday, with two individuals celebrating 40 years of service.

Nominees were awarded certificates of recognition for reaching five, 10, 20, 30, 40-year milestones. Along with many others nominated to receive an award of outstanding contribution.

The milestone awards for 40 years were awarded to Don Butler and Brian Henderson for their incredible support for the Hotham Valley Railway. Their contributions have been instrumental in the success of the organisation for more than four decades.

Rae Endersby was also awarded an outstanding contribution award for her 35 years of invaluable service at the Murray District Hospital. Rae has been a cornerstone of the hospital’s fundraising efforts, dedicating her time, energy, and unwavering commitment to fundraise for patient items and equipment.

Shire President, Douglas McLarty said the event was a small way the Shire can give thanks to the volunteers in the community.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have so many volunteers who give their time and energy to Murray. Their contributions play a vital role in supporting and connecting our community,” said Mr McLarty.

“These long-standing volunteers, along with many others within our community work tirelessly behind-the-scenes, solely for the betterment of our community. And for that we are immensely grateful,” he said.

The event was held at the Fell Bar at the Exchange Hotel.
