Moonee Valley City Council has announced an innovative new art program that aims to support people in the early stages of dementia.
Modelled after successful museum and gallery programs across Australia and globally, Art Mondo is set to revolutionise support for those living with dementia, and the people who care for them, said Mayor, Pierce Tyson.
“Moonee Valley is proud to offer innovative and inclusive programs such as Art Mondo. We want to ensure people of all ages and all abilities have every opportunity to enjoy and take part in local arts and culture,” the Mayor said.
“The benefits of art practice empowers and enriches people living with dementia, while encouraging them to forge meaningful connections within their community.”
Held at Incinerator Gallery in Aberfeldie, Art Mondo is a blend of interactive discussions, social engagement, and hands-on creative activities, carefully crafted to provide a nurturing and responsive environment.
The Council says participants can expect to see tangible benefits such as improved cognitive function, reduced stress levels, and enhanced emotional wellbeing.
