Mareeba crash claims second life

A second person, a 56-year-old man, has died following a fatal crash in Mareeba on July 28.

Police say that at around 6.15am, two four-wheel-drives travelling in opposite directions collided on the Kennedy Highway just north of the Gallo Drive intersection.

“A 39-year-old Tinaroo woman who was the driver and sole occupant of one vehicle was declared deceased at the scene,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“The driver of the other vehicle, a 56-year-old man from Mareeba, who was taken to Cairns Hospital with serious injuries, has now passed away.”

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and is urged anyone with dashcam vision of the incident or further information to contact police.
