Man charged with stalking child

A 58-year-old man has been charged after a child was allegedly approached on the state’s South Coast earlier this week.

Police say that at about 5pm on Sunday, a 10-year-old girl was busking at a shopping village in Vincentia, when she was allegedly approached by an unknown man.

Police have been told the man sat with the child and asked her for a hug repeatedly.

“It’s further alleged he insisted on accompanying the child to her home as she tried to leave,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“A woman that was known to the child intervened and ensured the child was able to leave safely.

“The child rode home and police were notified. Officers from South Coast Police District commenced inquiries.”

Following police inquiries, a 58-year-old man was arrested at a home in Vincentia about 2pm yesterday.

He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with common assault and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Nowra Local Court tomorrow.
