Far North Queensland detectives have charged a 50-year-old man following an alleged hit-and-run and child exploitation offences after his mobile home was searched yesterday.
Police yesterday appealed for information to identify a driver who was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run incident on the Kennedy Highway on Wednesday.
“Police arrested a 50-year-old Sunshine Coast man at a Manunda shopping centre yesterday morning following information received from the community,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
A search of the man’s car located allegedly stolen bank cards and false registration plates. A further search of the man’s mobile home located computer equipment which allegedly contained child exploitation material, Police said.
The man was denied police bail and charged with three counts of possessing child exploitation material. He was also charged with driving without due care and attention, failing to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash, fraud, bringing stolen goods into Queensland, unlawful possession of suspected stolen property and common assault.
He is scheduled to appear at Cairns Magistrates Court today.
A 48-year-old Western Australian woman, in the company of the Sunshine Coast man, was also arrested.
She was later charged with three counts of possessing child exploitation material and one count each of fraud, bringing stolen goods into Queensland and unlawful possession of suspected stolen property.
She is scheduled to appear at the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 10.
