Police have charged a man with murder following the death of a 43-year-old man in Gympie yesterday.
It will be alleged that on Sunday an altercation occurred between four men at an address on John Street in Maryborough around 5pm.
Two men then allegedly fled the scene in a white ute after sustaining injuries. A third man aged 36 was transported to Hervey Bay Hospital after sustaining a non-life-threatening stab wound to his abdomen.
At around 10pm the same night, a white ute crashed into the front gate of a property on Burns Road, Ross Creek.
The vehicle was abandoned upon impact and police conducted extensive patrols of the nearby area but were unable to locate persons of interest.
At 6am yesterday morning, police located a 45-year-old man allegedly linked to the located vehicle who was then taken into custody to assist with police inquiries.
At 10am a 43-year-old man was located deceased, down an embankment at a property on Burns Road.
Ongoing investigations by police led to the arrest yesterday evening of a 36-year-old Island Plantation man alleged to have been involved in the initial altercation at John Street, during which the 43-year-old deceased man sustained serious injuries.
He has been charged with murder, assault occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage and is due to appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court this morning.
