Man charged over Fairy Meadow hit-and-run

A man has been charged following an alleged hit-and-run in the Illawarra region that left a 57-year-old man with serious head and chest injuries.

Strike Force Nubrigyn was established by detectives attached to Wollongong Police District to investigate the circumstances of a crash at the intersection of Daisy Street and Princes Highway, Fairy Meadow, about 8.55pm on Wednesday, October 16th.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District and NSW Ambulance paramedics rendered assistance to a 57-year-old man after he suffered serious head and chest injuries.

He was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition before he was later transferred to Liverpool Hospital, where he remains.

Following inquiries and an appeal for assistance, officers attached to Strike Force Nubrigyn arrested a 27-year-old man at Wollongong Police Station about 1.20pm today.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – driver manner dangerous, fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm, not give particulars to police and responsible person / custodian not disclose driver’s details.

He was given conditional bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday, January 14th, 2025.
