Man charged after ramming police officers with car

A 31-year-old Balga man who allegedly hit two police officers with his vehicle at the weekend has been charged by Mirrabooka detectives.

Police allege that at around 7.15am on Saturday, officers attended a home in Balga regarding a family violence matter.

“The man was directed to leave the premises, before he entered his vehicle. While the officers were standing in the driveway of the residence, the man accelerated towards them, causing one officer to be thrown onto the bonnet of the car,” WA Police said in a statement.

“The other officer was also hit as he attempted to take evasive action. After hitting the officers, the man crashed through a fence and a garage. He then drove off from the area, leaving the officers injured.”

He was later apprehended by Police on the Mitchell Freeway in Connolly.

One officer received a fracture to his leg, together with bruising and lacerations as a result of the incident. The other officer suffered lacerations and bruising, Police said.

The man will next appear in Perth Magistrates Court on September 19th.
