An 80-year-old man has died after a collision between a recreational boat and a commercial barge off the coast of Fremantle, WA today.
A ferry on the way to Rottnest Island is understood to have assisted the overturned recreational vessel and called police and Fremantle Volunteer Sea Rescue who arrived shortly after noon.
“As a result of the collision, two people onboard went into the water. An 80-year-old man is deceased and a 77-year-old man was conveyed back to shore and treated by medical staff for minor injuries,” a WA Police spokesperson said.
The 80-year-old man’s body has been recovered and police confirmed they are investigating the incident.
The recreational vessel has been towed back to shore for examination by investigators.
