Officers from the Inner West Police Area Command were travelling on Victoria Road about 8.50pm on Monday, when they spotted a VW Golf sedan which had been reported stolen from Glebe.
“Police activated their warning lights to stop the driver; however, the vehicle accelerated through the intersection of Sydenham Road and hit an SUV being driven by a 63-year-old man,” NSW Police said in a statement today.
“The driver of the sedan, a 43-year-old man, got out of the car and collapsed. Police performed CPR until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived. A 38-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the sedan, was trapped for a short time before being released.”
The 63-year-old driver of the impacted SUV was also trapped and had to be freed from the vehicle by Police Rescue officers.
“All have been taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment, with all reported to be in a stable condition,” police said.
A crime scene was established as officers commence investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
