Toowoomba charities, Civic Assist and Adapt Mentorship and Consultancy, will share proceeds from the 29th Toowoomba Mayoral Prayer Breakfast, which is set to be held on May 9th.
Toowoomba Region Mayor, Paul Antonio said he was pleased to select charities that were making positive differences to residents’ lives.
Mayor Antonio said Civic Assist has provided support services for people of all ages across its various programs for almost 18 years.
He said the Civic Assist Support Centre provided practical support for individuals and families each week and would launch two appeals this year, starting with its Winter Warmth Appeal in May. This will be followed by a Back to School Project in December.
Both appeals target families who are battling rising living costs or starting out again because of homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or family and relationship breakdown.
“Civic Assist operates a Youth Street Crew in Toowoomba’s CBD on Thursday evenings in addition to the Safe Night Precinct Crew that helps people in distress on Friday and Saturday nights in the CBD,” Mayor Antonio said.
“I’m pleased that the 2023 Breakfast also will distribute funds to youth support organisation Adapt Mentorship and Consultancy.
“From its origins as Young Bruthas, Adapt Mentorship has grown to offer positive education and connections to country for young people.
“It is very encouraging to see people like Susy and Adam Wenitong and their dedicated team investing time to connect with and inspire young people to find a purpose and achieve goals which they hadn’t thought possible.
“They provide pathways to employment and education, sporting sessions and outdoor adventures that allow participants to spend valuable time learning from the program’s mentors.
“This personal touch is so important to show how much value is placed in our young people.
“Our Region is fortunate to have numerous support services that assist people who are experiencing difficulties or need guidance in different aspects of their lives.
“The Toowoomba Mayoral Prayer Breakfast has the distinction of being one of the few events of its kind in Australia that is completely supported by its home businesses and organisations with proceeds delivered back to a chosen charity.”
This year’s guest speaker is internationally renowned Australian landscape photographer and publisher, Ken Duncan OAM.
Prices are $25 for adult tickets and $15 for school-age children.
Tickets for the breakfast, to be held at Rumours International, can be purchased at Council’s Little Street Customer Service Centre in Toowoomba from 8.30am to 5pm on weekdays.
