The man behind one of the acting world’s most famous voices, James Earl Jones, has passed away at the age of 93.
His agent, Barry McPherson, confirmed the acting legend had died on Monday morning US time at his home in New York’s Hudson Valley.
The cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Mr Jones’ screen career included a number of accolades – two Tony Awards, two Emmy Awards and a Grammy award.
He will live on for generations of moviegoers in the characters of Star Wars’ Darth Vader, and Disney’s King Mufasa in The Lion King.
He also lent his voice to American TV network, CNN, voicing their iconic “this is CNN” introduction and voiced a King James Version of the Bible.
Some of his other film work included roles in Field of Dreams, The Greatest (with Muhammad Ali), Conan the Barbarian, Dr Strangelove, Three Fugitives and roles in the Tom Clancy book-to-movie adaptations of The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger.
He was married twice – to Julienne Marie Hendricks in 1967 and Cecelia Hart in 1982 – and has a son, Flynn Earl, 41.
