Hit-and-run crash leaves man, 74, in critical condition

NSW Police are appealing for witnesses after a hit-and-run crash in Sydney which has left a 74-year-old pedestrian in a critical condition.

Police say just before 10.30am on Wednesday, emergency services were called to the intersection of Universal Street and Maloney Street at Eastlakes after the man was found injured on the roadway.

“The 74-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to Prince of Wales Hospital where he remains in a critical condition,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

“An investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding how the man became injured by officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.”

Initial inquiries have led police to believe the man may have been injured after being hit by a vehicle.

As investigations continue, police are appealing for anyone who has information or witnessed the incident, or who has dash cam footage, to come forward and contact the Crash Investigation Unit via Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000.
