A man in his 50s has been freed from his burning car by an heroic off-duty police officer and a local woman after a crash in Silvan last night.
“Investigators were told a car was travelling around a bend when it lost control and hit a tree on Parker Road just after 6.30pm,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
“The driver, a man believed to be in his 50’s, was trapped in the vehicle when it caught fire.”
Police say an off-duty Detective Sergeant, who was driving by and a local woman, who heard the crash, went to the aid of the driver.
“The pair freed the man from the car and managed to get him away from the fire,” Victoria Police said.
“As a result of the rescue, the local woman received burns and was transported to hospital.
“The driver was airlifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition.”
