New $2.5m chapter for Chilwell Library

City of Greater Geelong’s much-loved Chilwell Library is turning a new page, with a major redevelopment on the books.

The Council says the $2.5 million upgrade will further enhance the library’s role as a vibrant community hub.

The redevelopment, which is being support with a $150,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, will provide a new space to read, learn and connect; new meeting rooms for local groups, clubs and community programs; and improved amenities, including new public toilets.

The library is now temporarily closed to make way for the transformation, with construction kicking off from 7 July.

“While we’re busy writing this exciting new story, book it over to our other friendly neighbouring libraries: Geelong Regional Libraries, Geelong West, Belmont or Highton,” Council said in a statement.

“We’re excited for this new chapter of Chilwell Library and the benefits it will bring to our community.”
