Girl, 3, attacked by kangaroo

A three-year-old girl has been airlifted to hospital after being attacked by a kangaroo on a property on the outskirts of Armidale overnight.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by New South Wales Ambulance at 6pm on Thursday following reports the child that had been attacked by a kangaroo.

“NSW Ambulance Paramedics carried out initial treatment on scene of the three-year-old female and rendezvoused with the helicopter and the Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team at Armidale Airport,” the Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew said in a statement.

“The little girl suffered serious lacerations after the Kangaroo was seen to access the rear porch of the property where the child was.”

The little girl was further stabilised by paramedics prior to being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.

“Mum also travelled with her little girl during the 55 minute flight,” the Westpac crew said.
