A man aged in his 80s has been seriously assaulted in Sydney’s inner west today.

NSW Police say that at around 1pm, emergency services responded to reports of an assault outside an early voting centre at Ashfield Town Hall on Liverpool Road at Ashfield.

“NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man – believed to be in his 80’s – at the location. He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a serious condition,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Officers from Burwood Police Area Command arrested a 17-year-old boy at the scene. The teenager has been taken to Burwood Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.

“A crime scene has been established at the scene which will be examined by specialist police.”
