Drunk driver doing 150km/h on wrong side of road

Dandenong police have charged a man after he was caught driving drunk at 150km/h on the wrong side of the highway in Koo Wee Rup in the early hours of Saturday.

Police say they first saw the black Mitsubishi Pajero travelling on the wrong side of the South Gippsland Highway at an alleged speed of 150km/h around 12.45am.

“Officers intercepted the driver, a Drouin man, near the Pakenham bypass a short time later,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“He underwent a preliminary breath test indicating alcohol in his breath and he accompanied police to a station for an evidentiary breath test where he returned an alleged reading of .193.”

His licence was immediately suspended for 12 months and he has since been interviewed and charged with reckless conduct endangering life, speed dangerous, manner dangerous and other traffic offences.

He has been bailed to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 8 September.

His car was also immediately impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1050.

The driver was also found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer and is expected to be issued penalty notice.
