Djokovic aced by Federal Court decision

Controversial tennis superstar, Novak Djokovic is facing deportation from Australia this evening after the Federal Court late today unanimously ruled to dismiss his application to have his visa cancellation overturned.

In a statement, Djokovic said he was extremely disappointed with the court ruling but has vowed to cooperate with the relevant authorities.

Prime Minister, Scott Morrison applauded the Federal Court ruling.

“Strong borders are fundamental to the Australian way of life as is the rule of law,” he said.

“Our government has always understood this and has been prepared to take the decisions and actions necessary to protect the integrity of our borders.”

The tennis juggernaut’s lawyers had argued that Immigration Minister, Alex Hawke’s decision to cancel Djokovic’s visa on Friday was “illogical, irrational and unreasonable”.

“I am extremely disappointed with the court ruling to dismiss my application for judicial review of the Minister’s decision to cancel my visa, which means I cannot stay in Australia to participate in the Australian Open,” Djokovic’s statement read.

“I respect the Court’s ruling and I will cooperate with the relevant authorities in relation to my departure from the country.”
