Cop stabbed with screwdriver in Maserati chase

A man has been arrested and police are continuing to search for the driver of a stolen Maserati after an officer was stabbed and a police vehicle was rammed in Sydney’s south west.

About 10.10am yesterday, officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command spotted a Maserati, that had been reported stolen from West Pennant Hills on Tuesday, travelling south along Evelyn Street in Macquarie Fields.

Police followed the vehicle into Oakley Road, Long Point, and signalled for the car to pull over. The vehicle allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. It was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

When the vehicle reached a dead end on Wedderburn Road, it allegedly struck a marked police car, before the three occupants exited the car and fled the scene on foot.

One of the passengers, a 25-year-old man, fled into nearby bushland where it’s alleged he stabbed a senior constable in the hand with a screwdriver before being arrested on O’Hares Road, Wedderburn.

He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with various offences. The man was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today.

A search perimeter was established, with assistance from the Dog Unit and PolAir, however, the driver of the vehicle and a second passenger have not been located.

Inquiries continue to locate the other two occupants of the vehicle, and police are urging anyone with information to contact Campbelltown Police Station on (02) 4620 1199 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
