A climate change protestor has been charged following an unauthorised protest at Port Botany this morning.
At around 7.45am today, emergency services were called to Sirius Road near the intersection of Foreshore Road at Port Botany following reports a group had gathered in the area, including a man who had allegedly suspended himself from a pole.
Police were told the 21-year-old man attached himself to a pole, which was anchored over a bridge at that location.
The road was blocked by protestors, preventing the free flow of traffic in busy morning peak hour traffic.
Officer attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended, removed the man from the pole and arrested him.
The man was taken to Maroubra Police Station where he was charged with pedestrian obstruct driver’s/other pedestrian’s path, encourage the carrying on operation for commission of crime, not obey direction of police/authorised person, and remain on inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.
He was refused bail and will appear before Waverley Local Court tomorrow.
