Charges upgraded against driver in crash that killed 70-year-old

Victoria Police have upgraded charges against a man arrested over a fatal crash at Bouldercombe that claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman in February.

It will be alleged that at around 7.20am on February 19th, the 36-year-old Mount Morgan man was driving a Nissan Navara south along Razorback Road when it collided with a Mazda 323 travelling in the opposite direction near Waynes Lane.

“The driver of the Mazda, a 73-year-old Mount Morgan man, and the passenger, a 70-year-old Mount Morgan woman, sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to Rockhampton Hospital,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

“The 70-year-old woman passed away as a result of her injuries on February 24. The 73-year-old man was discharged from hospital on March 13.”

Police arrested the alleged driver of the Nissan, a 36-year-old Mount Morgan man, at a nearby residence in the afternoon of February 19.

He has now been charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, in addition to two counts of driver fail to remain at incident, and one count each of driving without a licence, driving unregistered vehicle, driving uninsured vehicle and driving vehicle with false registration plates.

He has been remanded in custody and is expected to reappear at Rockhampton Magistrates Court on May 1.
