Brisbane council looks to stretch KittyCat services

Plans to double the frequency of services on Brisbane’s KittyCat network have been put to the community for feedback.

Reconfiguring the CityHopper and inner-city Cross River ferry routes into three cross river services would deliver a service every 15 minutes, as opposed to the current 30-to-36-minute frequency.

Civic Cabinet Chair for Transport, Councillor Ryan Murphy said the new KittyCat network would deliver more frequent services, provide better connections to the CityCat network, and provide more capacity and improved reliability.

“The Schrinner Council is committed to keeping Brisbane moving and we want to deliver more frequent and reliable ferry services for everyone,” said Cr Murphy.

“We know residents who use the CityHopper often face overcrowded vessels and want more frequent services, and this reconfiguration plan will double the number of services available.

“By doubling KittyCat services and ensuring they connect into the CityCat timetable we are making it even easier for people to leave the car at home and travel by the river instead.

“With more KittyCat services planned alongside the Kangaroo Point Bridge opening on 15 December residents are about to see a huge boost to public and active transport in the area.”

Under the proposal services would be doubled at KittyCat-only terminals, and ferry connections into the wider network made significantly more efficient with ferry arrival times to the Riverside, Sydney Street and QUT Gardens Point terminals co-ordinated with the CityCat services.

The proposed new higher frequency cross river services:

  • Maritime Museum – QUT Gardens Point
  • Holman Street – Riverside
  • Dockside to Sydney Street.

More than 830,000 were trips taken on the CityHopper and inner-city Cross River services in 2023/24.

The community are being asked for their feedback on the planned improvements with an online survey open for two weeks from 21 October to 3 November.

Residents in Kangaroo Point have also received letters advising them of the survey and signage with QR codes to the surveys has been placed at ferry terminals.
