Boys charged over Goulburn fire

Two teenage boys have been arrested following an investigation into a house fire at Goulburn yesterday.

Police say that at around 5.45am on Sunday, officers from The Hume Police District attended a house in Chisholm Street following reports of a fire.

“Fire & Rescue NSW were also in attendance and the blaze was quickly extinguished,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“A crime scene was established, and an investigation commenced.

“Following inquiries, officers arrested two boys – aged 14 and 13 – about 9.30am, and they were taken to Goulburn Police Station.”

The teens were interviewed and will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

Police will allege the boys poured accelerant around the home before setting it alight.

“It is further alleged a table was thrown through a window of the house. At the time of the incident a 64-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man were asleep,” NSW Police said.

The occupants of the home were uninjured, while the house sustained minor damage.
