Boy dies in skip bin tragedy

Police are preparing a report for the coroner following the tragic death of a boy in Port Lincoln this morning.

Police say just after 5.20am today, three boys aged 11, 12 and 13 were allegedly asleep in an industrial bin when the bin was being emptied.

“One boy managed to jump out but sadly the 13-year-old sustained serious injuries and died at the scene,” SA Police said in a statement.

“The third boy was not injured. All three boys are from Port Lincoln.”

It is believed the truck driver was unaware the boys were in the bin at the time and is extremely shaken by the incident, SA Police said.

Safe Work SA have been advised.
