Barefoot man runs from police after drugs snatch

A 56-year-old Margate man is facing further charges after he ran from officers as his vehicle was being searched by police on Friday.

He is one of two people charged with drug offences after the car was intercepted on Redbank Plains Road.

“It will be alleged the 56-year-old Margate man was stopped in relation to a disqualified licence, with police subsequently searching the man and the utility,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

During the search officers allegedly located a quantity of dangerous drugs in the ute before the man snatched the drugs and fled on foot.

“It will be further alleged the man attempted to destroy evidence during a brief foot chase before he was taken into custody by police,” Police said.

The 56-year-old man was charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, supplying dangerous drugs and two counts of obstruction of a police officer. He will appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court today.

A 34-year-old Wynnum woman was also charged with one count each of possessing and supplying dangerous drugs. She will also appear in court today.
