Auslan all ears for Darwin

Darwinites who are deaf or have hearing impairments will now have improved access to important community information with the appointment of a Northern Territory-based Auslan interpreter.

Through funding from the Northern Territory Government, Deaf Connect has secured National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) accredited interpreter, Paula Bun, for a period of three years, the City of Darwin Council has announced.

Ms Bun provided Auslan services at last week’s Jingili Water Gardens ‘All Abilities Play Space’ launch – the first public event where interpreting services were provided for the hearing impaired by City of Darwin Council.

This Auslan interpreting service will be available for a range of events, including announcements, forums, meeting bookings, education sessions, seminars and presentations, Council said.

To book, head to Deaf Connect’s website. You will need to create an online profile for your department to book.
