A 75-year-old man has been arrested in Victoria over the alleged murder of Raymond Keam, whose body was found at Randwick more than 34 years ago.
The body of Raymond Keam (pictured) – then aged 43 – was located by a member of the public dumped in grass at the northern end of Alison Park at Randwick, on the morning of Tuesday, 13 January in 1987.
A post-mortem examination revealed he had died from severe head injuries. In 1988, a Coronial Inquest found Mr Keam died due to being struck by a person or persons unknown.
In 2019, a formal review of the case was conducted under the Homicide Squad’s Unsolved Homicide framework and a re-investigation commenced by detectives attached to Strike Force Augenaut.
In June this year, the NSW Government, together with the NSW Police Force, announced a $1 million reward for information relating to Mr Keam’s murder.
As part of ongoing inquiries, strike force detectives obtained an arrest warrant for a 75-year-old man, believed to be interstate.
Following further investigations Victoria Police (VICPOL), arrested that male at a home in Clayton about 10.40am yesterday. He was taken to the Melbourne Watch House and charged with an outstanding interstate warrant for murder, NSW Police said in a statement.
Strike Force Augenaut investigators successfully sought his extradition in Melbourne Magistrate’s Court yesterday and he was transported across the border to Albury Police Station where he was charged with murder.
The man was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today.
